So, as the covid vaccine is causing quite a stir around the world, having the fastest fiber internet connection possible has become important to not miss on any update. We are all aware that immunizations can protect us from viruses and bacteria. Doubts are unavoidable, however, since the virus is constantly evolving, simultaneous with the spread of misinformation. Although the organizations involved are doing their best to keep us updated on the vaccine’s progress, we can’t help but wonder if it will completely eradicate the disease.

Let’s go into all the specifics about the vaccine and the immunization procedure. In this article, you will be guided about the Covid-19 vaccine, which will help you decide whether to get vaccinated.

Given that many Filipinos spend most of their time online, educating people through the internet is advantageous in this situation.

COVID SITUATION IN THE PHILIPPINES

Covid cases in the country are rising at an alarming pace. It is becoming a serious issue that is affecting both the economy and the people. According to medical experts, the Philippines is in the same predicament as India in the fight against the virus. This warning comes as the country considers shortening quarantine periods for returning visitors and relaxing other restrictions.

The Philippine government is exhausting all efforts to find a solution to both the health and economic crises. While there is no sure way to combat the coronavirus, the . vaccines give us hope of resolving the problem by herd immunity. This way, the virus would be less likely to spread because many people are already immunized.

WHY SHOULD YOU GET VACCINATED?

The global pandemic is relentless. It is critical to be aware of the virus’s ability to mutate. Now is not the time to be smug. Indeed, a new strain has emerged that is more life-threatening than the previous one.

Despite stringent protocols, many people still take it for granted. They remove their face masks and shields when no one is looking. Social distancing is not being observed. They ignore the fact that the virus is so potent. This complacency exacerbates the problem.

What’s even more frightening is that many people are unaware that they are disease carriers. They unknowingly infect anyone they come into contact. It isn’t surprising, though, since the only way to identify the virus is through a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test. And not everybody can afford to pay for the test. Although rapid antigen tests are available, they are not as accurate as of the PCR test. Thus, it causes the virus’s continued spread.

IN A NUTSHELL, you remain vulnerable to the virus until you are immunized.

The role of the internet cannot be underestimated in disseminating information about the coronavirus and the vaccination program.

HOW DOES COVID VACCINE WORK?

Immunizations work by injecting a small amount of dead or weakened virus into the body. The vaccines, in turn, will stimulate the body’s natural defenses. Once inoculated, the body starts to produce antibodies to fight that specific virus or bacteria. These antibodies will destroy the virus or bacteria as soon as they recognize it.

COVID-19 vaccines, in particular, provide disease protection by eliciting an immune response to the SARS-Cov-2 virus. Developing immunity through vaccination reduces the risk of contracting the illness and its consequences. Having this immunity will help you fight the virus even if you expose yourself to it.

WHAT VACCINES ARE AVAILABLE?

While private companies are permitted to obtain vaccines for their employees under the tripartite agreement, only the government is currently authorized to receive vials through the Covax facility.

COVAX is a global campaign co-led by the World Health Organization, the Gavi Vaccine Alliance, and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, or CEPI. It intends to speed up the development and manufacturing of COVID-19 vaccines while ensuring equitable access to all countries.

In March, the government received the first batch of Covid vaccine donations from Beijing. Inoculation began with the government officials and medical frontrunners. It is a continuing process as more doses arrive from other pharmaceutical companies.

There are currently six main vaccine brands available.

1. CORONAVAC (SinoVac)

Type: Inactivated Virus

Age: 18-59 years old

Dose: 2 doses, 28 days interval

Efficacy: 50.4%

2. COVAXIN (Bharat Biotech)

Type: Inactivated Virus

Age: 18 years old and above

Dose: 2 doses, 28 days interval

Efficacy: 100 % on severe cases

3. NOVAVAX (NVAX)

Type: Subunit

It may be tempting to wait for the most effective vaccine. However, health experts advise that you get the vaccine as soon as it becomes available. It would be best not to put it off any longer. After all, immunization is about achieving herd immunity to control the pandemic at the population level.

Furthermore, as more people are getting immunized, new evidences emerge demonstrating the efficacy of the vaccines. Nonetheless, the only way to prove its efficacy is to try it on humans.

UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF VACCINES

Here’s a quick rundown of the various vaccine processes to help you understand them better.

INACTIVATED VACCINE

Inactivated or “killed” virus vaccines are typically created by exposing virulent viruses to chemical or physical agents like formalin to destroy their toxicity while retaining immunogenicity.

WEAKENED VIRUS VACCINE

Attenuation is the process of modifying an infectious agent so that it becomes harmless or less virulent. It generates a more robust and more long-lasting immune response with a rapid onset of immunity than inactivated virus vaccines. However, it may not be suitable for people with compromised immune systems.

VIRAL VECTOR

Viral vector vaccines employ a harmless virus that does not cause disease but acts as a medium for developing coronavirus proteins to elicit an immune response. It gives protection without ever having to risk the severe consequences of contracting the disease.

SUBUNIT VACCINE

Protein-based vaccines use virus or protein shells. It inserts the antigen’s genetic code into yeast cells, easy to develop, and can produce much protein. In this way, it aids in producing antibodies that result in an immune response to the virus.

NUCLEIC ACID VACCINE

RNA and DNA vaccines are a cutting-edge technique that uses genetically modified RNA or DNA to produce a protein that safely induces an immune response. Vaccines manufactured by Pfizer and Moderna fall under this category.

Instant communication gives us the power to reach millions of people within a fraction of a second.

The use of fiber internet significantly aids the vaccination process. It assists the government in ensuring that everyone receives medical care and vaccines, even during the enhanced quarantine period.

With a fast and reliable internet connection, one can conveniently browse the web for covid alerts and vaccination schedules.

HOW TO AVAIL OF THE COVID VACCINE

The government intends to immunize all its people. Hence, all Filipinos must register in the master list to avail of it. Yet, you would need your complete medical history before vaccination.

However, the National Vaccine Deployment Plan established a priority ordering schedule. It is per WHO’s Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization. Its goal is to minimize mortality, protect the healthcare system and ensure equal vaccine distribution.

The first phase, which is currently underway, includes frontline health workers, senior citizens, and persons with comorbidities.

Meanwhile, registration for the master list remains open. It is vital to enlist, particularly if your company is not allowed to purchase vials. You can enroll via the Department of Health’s portal or your local government unit’s registry. Click on the links below to register.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER GETTING THE COVID VACCINE?

It is common to experience some adverse reactions following the injection. It is a sign that your body is starting to develop defenses. Not everyone experiences some side effects, though. If you do, take a break because it can impair your ability to perform everyday tasks.

Discomfort, redness, and swelling on the injected arm can be expected. You can relieve pain by placing a clean, cold, and wet washcloth over the affected area. Try to move your arms to allow the vaccine to flow.

Aside from that, you can become exhausted and sore. It is possible to experience muscle pains and headaches. The worst-case scenario includes chills, a fever, and nausea. These signs, on the other hand, will go away in a few days. There’s no need to be worried or scared.

Consult your doctor if symptoms continue so that he can prescribe appropriate medications to alleviate your pain and discomfort.

WHAT YOU MUST KEEP IN MIND

  • Side effects are typical.
  • Except for Johnson & Johnson, most vaccinations require two shots to provide the best defense. Complete the shots even though you had side effects from the first dose unless a doctor tells you otherwise.
  • Developing immunity takes time. You can consider yourself entirely vaccinated two weeks after the second shot.
  • Regular activities may be resumed after being completely vaccinated against COVID-19. Still, it would help if you continue to protect yourself and others.

Although covid vaccines are both safe and reliable, health experts and vaccine manufacturers continue to seek answers to these four questions:

  1. How well do vaccines keep the virus from spreading?
  2. How long can COVID-19 vaccines keep people safe?
  3. How many people must be immunized against COVID-19 until we can say that most people are already protected? (population immunity).
  4. How effective are the vaccines against the new strains of the virus?

THUS, it is crucial to remain vigilant and up to date on the latest developments.
