Drama film Labor Day (2013)
Starring Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin, this movie is about depressed single mom Adele. She and her son Henry offer a wounded, fearsome man a ride. Later on, the police search town for the convict, and the mother and son gradually learn more about the true story of the strange man.
As you can probably guess, the escaped convict in the plot is Frank Chambers, the man Adele and Henry Wheeler helped out. The audience learns in flashbacks that Brolin was a war veteran who had a pregnant girlfriend, Mandy. A year after the baby’s birth, the couple had an intense fight. Mandy died while the baby drowned, which resulted in Brolin being thrown into prison.
Adele Wheeler and Frank Chambers eventually fall in love in their rural home, but things were against the couple. They planned to go to Canada, but the odds were against them.
As always, Kate Winslet was spectacular in the film as single mom Adele. She and Josh Brolin were an undeniably compelling pair throughout the movie. The movie also stars Tobey McGuire, James Van Der Beek, and Clark Gregg. The pallid melodrama was directed and written by Jason Reitman. Distributed by Paramount pictures, the film was released in 2013.
Norma Rae (1979)
If you’re a feminist who wants to see a lady in action, you should watch the 1979 film, Norma Rae. Starring Sally Field, this movie is about a woman who worked in a textile mill. She had to endure terrible work conditions and with meager pay.
This movie follows her journey to become a labor activist and how she rallied her coworkers to unionize. Norma Rae is an empowering film that you should watch if you’re looking for inspiration to fight for your rights.
